History
Prawet was once part of Phra Khanong district. Prawet was elevated to become a separate district in 1989. Part of Prawet, especially the Suan Luang sub-district were curved out to establish Suan Luang district on 14 January 1994.
In October 2005 the plan to create the special administrative area Nakhon Suvarnabhumi around the new Bangkok airport became public. Prawet was supposed to be one of five districts to be included into this new area.
Places
Rama IX Park (Suan Luang Rama IX, สวนหลวง ร. 9) is a large park built to commenmorate King Bhumibol's 60th birthday on 5 December 1987. It covers 0.8 km² of land, a large portion of which is the water reservoir named Traphang Kaeo (ตระพังแก้ว). The most distinctive building of the park is Ho Ratchamongkhon (หอรัชมงคล) which is a gallery showing the king's biography and his royal projects. It also has a botanical garden and grass fields for recreational sports.
Seacon Square is a large shopping malls located on Si Nakharin Road. Further south along the road are Tesco Lotus and Paradise Park (formerly Seri Center). The latter is a mall specialized in IT, furnitures, and kids schools offering activities such as music and sports.
Onnut Road is fast becoming an automotive hub. Manheim Auctions had validated this area by choosing to establish its Asian Pacific headquarters and auction site here. The Soni Group Of Companies has further accelerated the recovery of this region by establishing a large auto showroom and its corporate headquarters.
The great push to Prawet's recovery is its close proximity to the new Suvarnbhumi Airport.
